In the beginning of 2010 the ICCO alliance (in which Yente operates as a partner) pointed out that it would be useful if Yente were to join two other alliance partners who are already active in Ethiopia for many years. The Ethiopian government wants to encourage entrepreneurship and the Ethiopians themselves, with their entrepreneurial spirit, will certainly turn that endeavour to good use. At the same time, they have had to deal with a past in which the whole business world was run by the government causing a backlog in the areas of education, training and technology.
Lof, the Dutch inspirational magazine for working moms, launched an election for The Most Socially Inspired Woman of 2011. The number of submissions was overwhelming. That is why we are extra proud that Yente's programme director, Karen Kammeraat, was one of the five nominated women! In an entrepreneurs' network you not only strengthen yourself but others above all. That is why Yente made a practical little guide, Creating networks to connect women entrepreneurs. With practical step-by-step plans, it mentions all the ins and outs about setting up and maintaining a network. The participants at the seminars in Peru were the first to download the little (digital) guide from the Yente website.
On the Yente website we reported on the successful seminars for women entrepreneurs in Lima and Arequipa. The seminars yielded initiatives that will become more concrete in the coming year.
